Breakfast at Tiffany's Night
Monday, July 23, 2012 at 8:00AM In June we had our very first bookclub here at Dean Street Society, reading "5th Avenue, 5 am" about the making of "Breakfast at Tiffany's" & the style of the 50's & 60's. We chatted back & forth in the Facebook group over discussion questions, then capped it off with viewings of the film round the world, whether a party of one in your cozy bed or here with us at Two Moon Cafe & Art House in Brooklyn.

I would like to take a moment to shout from the rooftops: I bought this dress in 1999! Yes. You read that right. It was an awkward too-long length so my friend Andrew chopped it off for me. Then I bought an exposed zipper at Joanne's Fabrics to freshen it up. I think it's the perfect testiment to one of the takeaways from the book: a little black dress is truly timeless!

Posing & proping with a few of our chic guests. Then it was time for bubbly, finger sandwiches, decadent treats & the film. If you're in NYC you simply must go by Two Moon Cafe! Such a charming space whether having breakfast with your laptop or a quiet drink with a girlfriend.

If you missed out on the first book club, never fear! Make sure you're on the newsletter {right sidebar} as our second book club & movie night will be happening this fall!

aw such a shame I missed this, I would of loved it!
I'm having a Hollywood themed party this weekend & dressing as Holly Golightly...so excited! x
This looks so fun! I look forward to the next book (and hopefully that month I won't have 3 others to read for other book clubs that will prevent me from getting to it...). Also, I LOVE that you had the dress refashioned. I wish I could do things like that myself, but either way, I should keep that option at the back of my mind for older things I don't love as much anymore. Because that dress is now super fabulous!
Ooh Christy your party sounds fabulous!
And yes, Anne, it really is a great idea to keep in mind that things can be altered. And pretty dramatically. It's worth taking something to get an estimate at a tailor & then deciding if that price is worth the wear you'll get out of it or not. I don't do a lot of major tweaks, but in this case I loved the fit other than the length {& if you have a talented friend like I did it's free!}.
Love the black dress you are wearing!
Thanks Pati! I'm so proud I've owned for over a decade now & still love it! :)
