Peacock + Navy, A Blue Story
Monday, August 13, 2012 at 8:00AM While we mourn the loss of the Olympics {ahem, 4 hours a night of shirtless male swimmers that classifies as patriotism}, a final red, white & blue post.
There are certain color palettes that catch our eye at a time of year because of a holiday {red & green at Christmas}. But if I hadn't said anything about the Olympics, you would never have tracked on this outfit as being red, white & blue as in 4th of July.
Remember that just because you associate colors with something, doesn't mean that anyone else does. {Blue & orange are a great color combo, even if your miserable ex-boyfriend is an Auburn alum.} And if you want to think outside the box, play with the hue of a color. Royal blue & cherry red say USA but peacock, navy, & poppy say hello cute outfit 12 months a year.

This look was shot by Rachel Friendlander. She is the cutest & sweetest thing, & oh so talented! Go take a look at her Rachel Friedlander Photography page on Facebook to follow along with what else she's up to. And you can go ahead & "like" Dean Street Society to while you're there. Look at you multi-tasker!

P.S. In the comments below tell me ONE think-outside-the-box color combo you can try to find in your closet. Or an outfit that feel too "something" that you now realize no one else sees as that!

This is so cute! I love the combination of teal and navy with the pop of orangey red! It's definitely an evergreen look.

Thanks Erin! These are 3 of my favorite colors for sure.
I struggle with purple and yellow/gold/mustard together because those are the school colors of my alma mater (Western Illinois). However, I see a lot of people put those colors together. I like them together, too, but I always stop myself before I do it. Some day....
Kati, so funny because to me purple & yellow are the Lakers. I'm not even a fan, just growing up in LA I guess it seeped in through osmosis. But especially when it's a very non-sporty outfit on someone (yellow skirt with purple tights or blouse) then it doesn't cross my mind when I see it on them.
Blue and gold are my high school's colors and my fraternity colors, so wearing them together always feels like Spirit Day, even though I know they go great together. Still haven't quite gotten over the mental hurdle.
Ashley, I think I have the opposite reaction: when I wear my alma matter colors (Pepperdine orange + blue) or sorority (Delta Gamma pink + blue) I think I get MORE excited, perhaps even letting myself get swayed even though most people won't read the ensemble with the same wink + nod. Ha.
I love this combination - even though it is the same colours as my old school uniform!
Love this outfit's color combination. Lately I have been finding ways to wear black and orange together without looking Halloweeny :)
Now that is impressive! I've yet to figure out orange & black myself. :)
Siobhan, is it weird that I just got jealous you had a school uniform?! I'm picturing Hogwart's meets Gossip Girl ...
